LIFT UP LJ
… is a new campaign for a more accessible and safer station at Loughborough Junction, led by local people.
Rising passenger numbers, and the clear public safety risk from a possibly non-compliant station layout, mean that it is now time to press for real action — not just words — from Lambeth Council, rail franchise operator Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), Network Rail and the Department for Transport.
"At the moment, we've got about 2,000 stations across England and Wales, and about half of them have good step-free access between the entrance to the station and the platform, and we need to increase that number because not only would that be good for people with physical disabilities, it's also good for people that are travelling with young families, if people are going on holiday, they've got heavy bags and suitcases."
“So improving the accessibility of stations is really important.”
